We are proud to announce the latest Scott Haldane in-depth diving medicine course entitled "Hear, Smell, Feel".In diving medicine terms, an in-depth look at the ENT area and (dangerous) Marine life is discussed. Not entirely unexpected of course, as ENT problems are at the top of the list of diving-related disorders. The diving doctor can play a major role in preventing problems through good advice on the one hand and by solving (acute) problems on the other. The presence of underwater flora and fauna is often the number one reason for recreational divers to go diving. However, encounters and contact with marine life can produce unpleasant experiences. How to prevent and treat this is also part of the diving doctor's duties. In acute cases, proper treatment can be life-saving. This course is organized at a beautiful new SHF course location near the Watamu marine park on the east coast of Kenya. Crystal clear water with a wide variety of marine life guarantees a beautiful and educational course week.

The Scott Haldane Foundation has a full internationally accredited training program that meets all the requirements of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM). The course announced here is part of the training for Diving Medicine Physician (level 2d). The course is an accredited refresher course for the re-registration of Medical Examiners of Divers and Diving Medicine Physicians and is directly accredited by the European College of Baromedicine (ECB).

Topics

This course aims to increase the knowledge of the diver doctor in the field of ENT and underwater flora and fauna. To this end, these two areas are treated by experienced specialists.

ENT:
in addition to deepening general knowledge about the ENT field, the following three focus areas form the core of this part:

  • Whether or not you can/may dive with existing pathology relating to hearing, balance and smell. And the advice that can be given.
  • The problems that diving can cause in the ENT area and how they can possibly be prevented.
  • The treatment of ENT pathology arising during or after the dive.

Marine life: Based on the knowledge of marine biology, distinguish various groups whose contact with the diver can lead to undesirable/dangerous situations. It discusses:

  • The behaviour of underwater life.onderwth 2
  • How to avoid contact.
  • The risks of contact.
  • The consequences and treatment of contact

After this course the diving doctor is supposed to:

  • To be better able to identify problems during a preventive diving medical examination in the ENT area that could pose a risk while diving.
  • To be better able to assess the various conditions that can occur during diving for their possible effects on diving safety with regard to the ENT area and contacts with underwater flora and fauna. He/she is expected to be able to provide well-founded advice to the diver on this matter.
  • To be able to initiate adequate treatment caused by ENT problems that have occurred during or after diving or that are the result of contact with marine life.
